New York, New York

On Monday evening the 22nd October the Club welcomed the return of popular speakers, Mike and Gillian Birbeck to present their latest programme, New York, New York.
The evening was devoted entirely to prints of a very high standard which we all appreciated.
Our journey through the Big Apple showed iconic buildings dwarfed against huge skyscrapers to ultra modern architecture such as the Guggenheim Museum.
We visited Broadway where most of the long running shows were by Andrew Lloyd Webber, to Times Square, the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station with it's famous clock.
Central Park gave people a chance to run, walk, roller skate or just to sit and unwind in this fast paced city.
Transport featured such as the famous yellow cabs and school buses, not forgetting that NY has a huge underground subway network.
China Town was also visited with it's colourful street food stalls and markets.
Following the events of 911 the area surrounding the site of the Twin Towers had been transformed into a permanent memorial. A water feature surrounded by a wall of bronze on which are inscribed the names of all those who lost their lives on that fateful day.
The evening concluded with classic images of sunsets and after dark views out over the Manhattan skyline.
Everyone agreed it had been another enjoyable night, thanks to Mike and Gillian's eye for a good picture.
