Northern England

On the 18th April the Club welcomed back a very good friend, Mike Birbeck, to present a talk on the North of England. Both colour and mono prints were used to portray the various places he visited, their moods and traditions from the Yorkshire Moors to the Lakes of Cumbria. The great cathedrals of York and Durham were shown and contrasted against the ruins of Whitby Abbey, Fountains Abbey and Lindisfarne Priory.
A visit to the Beamish open air rural life museum was very enjoyable with people dressed in period costume, old steam engines, workshops and tools from yesteryear.
Mike's visit to Appleby coincided with the annual Horse Fair and provided an opportunity to photograph the many characters from all over the country who gather here each year to buy and sell their horses.
Everybody agreed this had been another very informative and enjoyable meeting.
