Members Night

The meeting on Monday 18th March was given over to the members who entertained us with a variety of mini lectures.
Kevin started the ball rolling with a video charting the history of the Stereoscopic image which gained such popularity with the Victorians. Steve followed with a collection of images representing neglect, from derelict buildings to rotting boats and peeling paint. Most of the photos were taken locally and some from Dungeness in Kent. Stuart chose to show images from a weekend in London recording many well known landmarks especially at night with their lights reflected in the Thames. We also saw some examples of street photography amongst the hundreds of people going about their daily lives.
By contrast Sue took us on a visit to the Venetian Island of Burano famous for it's lace making and colouful houses. Wandering through narrow alleys you come out into beautifully painted courtyards all different, with unique features and flowers everywhere.
David gave an introduction to FIAP The International Federation of Photographic Art. He has been a member for many years progressing from Artiste to Diploma of Excellence. His latest Award EFIAP/s the Silver Award was gained in 2023 and all 55 images from his successful application were shown to members. The last presentation was from Cherrie, who with her husband Dave, took a cruise along the Norwegian coast. The scenery was stunning with snow capped mountains leading down to deep fiords. Many places of interest were seen and iconic buildings on the several shore visits made. Some lovely sunsets were witnessed from onboard and the trip was rounded off with a brief glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Everyone enjoyed looking at each others work and felt that this had been another interesting evening at the Club.
